An Introduction to Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)

Friday, August 19th

1:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Description

Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is an elegant combination of multiple approaches (in one session) found to be beneficial in treating many psychopathologies. Research has shown that symptoms of PTSD can often be reduced or eliminated in 3-5 sessions. Therapists report they enjoy sessions where clients do not need to talk about their traumas, thereby reducing secondary traumatization for the clinician.

Learning Objectives

Objective 1 - Participants will be able to describe Accelerated Resolution Therapy.

Objective 2 - Participants will be able to list 4 components of effective trauma focused psychotherapy.

Objective 3 - Participants will be able to identify 2 components of ART that facilitate change.

Objective 4 - Participants will be able to identify 1 difference between ART and EMDR.

Presenter

Kathy Long is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Accelerated Resolution Therapy Trainer.  She received her BA in Psychology and MA in Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida.  She has additional training in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, counseling with the Military and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Kathy was trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) at the University of South Florida in October 2010 for a study funded by the Department of Defense, which evaluated use of ART for treatment of symptoms of psychological trauma. She has since been involved in several studies at USF evaluating ART for psychological trauma and Complicated Grief in different populations. She has assisted in training clinicians at multiple ARMY bases, as well as Walter Reed Medical Center. She became a Trainer for ART in 2016 and has trained clinicians across the United States, including military clinicians for the 7th Special Forces Group at Camp “Bull” Simmons on Eglin AFB. She trains clinicians in Basic, Advanced, and Enhanced protocols, and recently was chosen to train new ART trainers in effort to help meet the demand for Basic trainings.
